Three reasons to practice prenatal yoga:

  • Preparation for birth. One of the main reasons most women come to prenatal is because of the profound benefits it has on the body in preparation for birth. Yoga strengthens the pelvic floor— which are the muscles that will aid in the birthing process— and in general brings more awareness into the body and breath. Most prenatal yoga classes will focus on gentle hip openers and posture, which are both key during pregnancy and afterward.

  • Stress Reduction. Mamas need to feel chill too! This is important not only for you, but also your baby, as everything you feel they are feeling as well. But, mostly you, as you are growing a human-being… This can be a pretty radically transformative yet stressful time. Prenatal offers you the space to be with yourself and your baby in a loving, supportive, and nurturing environment. Meditation, breath work, and yoga have been proven to calm the nervous system and help withal mental and emotional functioning.

  • The Breath is Your Power! We often don’t think about the breath on a day-to-day basis, but the yogis did! At least, they were more aware of it than we are. The truth is, the breath is our power, and during pregnancy and birth will be a woman’s best friend. The breath is interconnected with how we feel physically, emotionally, and mentally— so its so important that we have a grasp on how to practice basic breath patterns to self-soothe and transform energy. During any yoga class, pranayama is a huge focus, but especially during prenatal.
