What is Ashtanga & Mysore-Style Yoga?
Ashtanga Yoga is a traditional, breath-based practice that follows a set sequence of postures. It’s energizing, meditative, and designed to build strength, flexibility, and inner focus over time.
Mysore-style is the traditional way to learn Ashtanga Yoga. Instead of a led class, students move through the sequence at their own pace with personalized instruction. New students are guided step-by-step, while experienced students continue their practice with quiet support. It’s open to all levels—even if you’re brand new to yoga!

That’s exactly why we practice yoga! Flexibility and strength are developed over time. There’s no need to be “good at yoga” to begin.

Ariel Focier
Lily Luna
After years dedicated to dance and movement training, Lily took her first yoga class in 2014, finding an immediate connection with the practice. Soon, she started exploring different yoga practices, falling in love with the Ashtanga method, which became her regular daily practice.
In 2018, Lily moved to Chicago to work as a mental health therapist, and she finished her Yoga Teacher Training (200 hours) in the summer of 2020 under the guidance of Gopi Om (Nicole Sopko), based on classical Hatha yoga disciplines. Lily has also had the honor to assist and learn from her teacher Todd Boman.
As a yoga instructor and psychotherapist, Lily continually educates herself on meditation, pranayama, and various yoga practices. She is focused on yoga's benefits as a tool for mental health and general well-being.
She is passionate about sharing the Ashtanga Yoga method, since through this powerful practice, she has transformed her life.
“Our goal is to bring a welcoming and authentic Mysore-style Ashtanga practice to the community. With our shared passion for the tradition of Ashtanga Yoga, we are eager to provide students at Ahimsa with the opportunity to deepen their practice in a supportive setting. ”
Ariel is an Ashtanga yoga student and teacher, authorized by Paramaguru R. Sharath Jois of Mysore, India. With over ten years of practice and multiple trips to Mysore, her yoga journey has been shaped by both personal experience and dedicated study.
Ariel first became interested in yoga in her early twenties as a way to better understand herself. Eager to learn more, she immersed herself in different styles of yoga classes and yoga literature. In 2016, while traveling through Southeast Asia, Ariel found herself in a Mysore class, where she discovered the practice that would transform her life. After returning to Chicago, she sought out Todd Boman whom she would spend the next nine years studying under.
Ariel’s goal is to share the transformative power of yoga with others, creating space for students to evolve both on and off the mat.
