NEW HOT YOGA STUDIO IN OAK PARK

Students are raving about Ahimsa’s newest studio, Ahimsa Power Yoga. Located in Oak Park two doors down from Ahimsa’s flagship location started in 2011, Ahimsa Power Yoga offers a big shift from the more traditional yoga studio vibe Ahimsa Oak Park, Berwyn, La Grange, and Elmhurst are known to provide.

Ahimsa Power Yoga has a boutique, yet simple vibe - a huge yoga room, substantial lobby packed with amazing clothing, candles, crystals, and goodies, three private changing rooms, and two bathrooms.

Our signature flow class, Ahimsa Power Flow, teaches 3 different flows (in additional to an opening, gentle warm up, long holds, and savasana), and gives students time to practice each flow on their own after going through them with the group 2-3 times. This class is great for the beginner or seasoned practitioner who wants to add in his or her own modification or twist. The class is designed to give you freedom to listen to your body and go at your own pace, but only for a few minutes.

One of the key elements for Ahimsa Power Yoga include practicing in a “candlelit” aka dim, room with no mirrors. We’re asked to focus on how we feel, rather than how we look. It’s hard to see the “competition” if you are tempted toward comparison during class, and you can get into your own practice without worrying if your hair is tousled or if your belly is showing.

Another key element is the heat - we keep it at a balmy 85 degrees - not too hot where you slip on your mat or become dehydrated, and not too cool where you have to wear a sweater just to get through the warm up.

Ahimsa Chisel classes combine our Power Flow class with a few sequences using light hand weights and bodyweight movements. As always, we encourage modifications. After all, this is Ahimsa Power Yoga, not just Power Yoga. Ahimsa means non-violence or non-harming, and just like in yoga philosophy, it’s number one at our studios.

The best part about Ahimsa Power Yoga classes? Each class ends with one minute of seated meditation so your mind will be calm and ready to ease into the rest of your day or night.
