GOAT YOGA AT AHIMSA: ADD SOME BAAMASTE TO YOUR DAY!

If you’re been with us for a while, you know we love to try new things to engage with our students. Because we love our pets--and we know many of you do--we have tried various ways to extend yoga to animal lovers. We’ve hosted kitten yoga events to raise money for or adopt shelter cats; we hosted “Date Night Doga” which was featured on SeeChicagoTV. We also have promoted the benefits of practicing yoga with your pet.

Several years ago, taking a yoga class in a field with goats became a thing, and Kelly took a Goat Yoga class at a studio in L.A. That class was conducted by the now owner/founder of The Mending Muse, Angela Thomas Friis. Angela eventually brought her goat wrangling to her hometown of Chicago (described here recently by her husband) and contacted Kelly. We were happy to host Angela and her goats, Wally and friends, in two of our locations in 2019. People flocked to the two sold out events, and they loved it!

Angela says she helps take events “from blah to baa.” “Goats bring comfort and joy, they help reduce stress and research even indicates that interacting with therapy animals can temporarily affect the release of various neurotransmitters in the brain, bringing a sense of calm and joy,” Angela states on her website.

We are excited to be bringing Angela, Wally, and friends to each of our studios this year! Goat yoga is something to experience at least once in your lifetime, but since we’re offering multiple events, we won’t be surprised if we see you at more than one.

As Angela taught us to say, Bamaste!
