Ahimsa’s strengths are the variety of classes, class times and locations, teacher quality, special events and commitment to serving students in an accessible and authentic way.
— A.L.

I can feel the warm spirit of Ahimsa even upon approaching the studio. The staff is gentle and compassionate. They are knowledgeable and good listeners. The facility is always clean and well cared for. The instructors I have experienced are focused, attentive, and creative. What particularly draws me to Ahimsa’s classes are the detailed and continuous instructions we get regarding during the sessions. It’s so helpful to be reminded of what particular parts of our bodies should be doing during any given movement or posture. In addition, a spiritual element runs throughout each class (and in between) in a way that is not didactic, but always nurturing.

Wonderful classes; skilled and welcoming instructors.

About Ahimsa

Ahimsa (1 of 1)-3.jpg

Ahimsa was created by Kelly Merydith in May of 2011. Kelly completed a business degree the previous year and was living at her parents home in Oak Park, where she'd grown up. After interviewing at a couple of companies downtown and not being offered a position, she decided to work full steam ahead to her goal of opening a yoga studio. The idea for Ahimsa was born in her senior year of college at Northeastern University in Boston. Kelly had worked in the finance world for two separate six month internships and noticed anxiety and depression developing from stress and pressure of the finance world. Yoga was what helped her feel calm and peaceful again - so she decided she needed to share that feeling with others.

After four years as an only child, Ahimsa in Oak Park was joined by three more studios - Berwyn (September 2015), Elmhurst (June 2016), and La Grange (June 2017). Longtime friends Kelly and Masin Ouksel opened the newest three studios together and enjoy spreading the joy the yoga brings to the suburbs of Chicago.
